Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno highlighted that Sukabumi District, West Java, has a plethora of world-class tourism destinations, such as the Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu UNESCO Global Geopark.
“I am amazed by the tourism potential of Sukabumi District. The region can further develop its huge potential to increase the number of domestic and international tourist visits,” he remarked during a working visit to Palabuhanratu Sub-district on Thursday (May 23).
He noted that Sukabumi, which stands as the second-largest district in the Java-Bali region, has already established a special economic zone that is expected to bring positive impacts to the tourism sector and economy.
Uno remarked that Sukabumi offers comprehensive tourism experiences, as visitors can enjoy mountains, jungles, beaches, and rivers while obtaining knowledge about the formation of Java Island.
Hence, to this end, he emphasized the need to capitalize on Sukabumi’s potential by improving services, accessibility, facilities, and entertainment activities.
The minister then said that the district hosts Hanjeli Village, which he deems as one of the best tourism villages in Indonesia.
He affirmed that Sukabumi had been witnessing significant progress in the development of its tourism and economy, noting that local tourism destinations and activities have helped the district lower its unemployment rate and stimulate business activities.
He said developments in Sukabumi’s tourism sector had allowed locals to run their own businesses, especially those related to accommodation, culinary arts, and handcrafts.
“Moreover, the district has been routinely hosting arts events, such as a cultural festival held on National Fishermen Day, that can be optimized to attract foreign tourists,” he remarked.
Uno then expressed optimism about Sukabumi’s tourism destinations contributing to its economic growth.
The central government will provide support for all measures by the Sukabumi district government to boost tourism, he stated.
